A really long day

I woke up, put on my ivy park jumpsuit, drank a green spirulina smoothy, and was ready to start the day. This week I’ve been working as an assistant to a fashion stylist for the first time! My mom Lauren Schugar is a freelance fashion stylist and I’ve always helped on-set if she needs an extra hand but this week was my first time being the main and only assistant… and If this couldn’t get any better, I’m getting paid! As a 16-year-old who hasn't had an office job yet, getting money is exciting itself but when it’s above minimum wage you can’t help but have an extra jolt of energy in your step.

As an assistant stylist, my job mostly consists of changing the models and preparing for their next outfit/looks, re-ticketing price tags to clothing, writing out credits of what looks the models were wearing and where all the clothes were from, tapping shoes, and helping do the endless amount of returns. Glamorous... I do coffee runs too.

I’m definitely a beginner at this and know there is a lot to improve on but a good portion of the job I had the hang of. I was talking to my mom, and we think after 10 more jobs like this one I could be doing it for other stylists. The crew was super nice about me being new, some of them were saying how good a job I was doing which was so sweet. A lot of this week’s crew I already knew because my mom has taken to this job before. It’s always really nice when you know who you're working with, that way you're more comfortable asking questions and just being around them. In the photo right below you’ll see me and the makeup artist Jamyrlyn being goofy.

One thing I also really liked about being on set was learning new things about photography and lighting. and how the models move etc etc

After work, I drove my mom and me to a friend’s house. She drove herself home to veg out. I stayed and hung out with one of my friends while we waited for our other friend to arrive. The three of us bussed down to U:don but arrived just as they were closing so we walked down the block to Momiji a sushi restaurant that I’d never tried until that night. I got the 12th roll and the Mr. Perfect roll and we ate at Call Anderson Park down the street. the 12th roll was so BOOM and the Mr.perfect roll was a tab bit spicey. The enjoyment level on that roll was less due to me not having any water. Our conversation as we ate consisted of books, mental health, and the coming school year. As the night was starting to wrap up we spontaneously decided to all split a Sunday at Molly Moons. I got home at 11:30 and went right to bed. knowing I would be going to work the next day.

Thanks for reading about my long day at work and hanging out with friends!
