Cancel culture

Today I was going threw some BLM hashtags to see any new educational information, I sometimes do this a few times a day. Usually there’s not too much I haven’t seen but if I find something interesting I’ll go onto that person’s instagram feed and see if there are any other interesting articles/posts.

In generation Z there is a huge cancel culture. Which I don’t think actually solves anything. Canceling someone doesn’t ever fix anything, it just makes them go away. Everybody makes mistakes, whether they are an influencer or not. (Usually influencers openly apologies for whatever they did that was wrong) Remember its not about what you do, its about how you react, learn, grow, and overall better yourself from the experience.

The notions that after someone says something racist or sexiest or whatever they did that was inappropriate or straight up wrong can be canceled. I’m not saying that what they did or said is ok, or that they get a “ its fine, they're learning” no, they have to own it. Or own up to it. But to not help educate this person and blatantly ignore them, doesn’t help them learn and as a result they are likely going to keep saying and doing what they were doing. Having hard conversations, is hard but it needs to be done. If your not going to do it, than who will? This does not mean going after someone, it needs to be a calm conversation. If they are not willing to learn, posting after the fact a “sorry” with no change. Is simply manipulation. After that I count it as valid to cut off strings beocuse that’s toxic. But before you go saying “ cancel her” why not “ call her out”

If you call someone out you give them the opportunity to become better. Canceling them in my eyes is just letting them continue the negative speech which is why you “canceled” them in the first place.
